HOLLAND, MI - The Northwest Ottawa Democratic Club (NODC) was formed after approval by the Ottawa County Democratic Party (OCDP) on Wednesday, May 14. The grassroots organization’s purpose is to organize and improve Democratic voter turnout in Grand Haven, Ferrysburg, Spring Lake Village, Grand Haven Township, Spring Lake Township, Crockery Township, and Robinson Township.
OCDP Chairperson Larry Jackson emphasized the NODC’s importance. "Election after election, Democratic performance is on the rise, and more voters are joining the party and getting involved. As our party continues to grow, we need to support these grassroots efforts and improve our voter turnout in every election,” Jackson said.
Nearly 60 similar community-based clubs operate throughout Michigan's 83 counties, according to the Michigan Democratic Party, showing a growing trend of local Democratic organizations beyond county party structures.
Local Democrats will launch the NODC at an inaugural public meeting on Tuesday, June 10 from 7-8:30 PM at the Unicorn Tavern, 415 Beechtree Street, Grand Haven. Doors open at 6:30 PM, with a cash bar available.
Those interested in learning more about the NODC may visit the OCDP website or the newly rebranded NODC Facebook page, formerly titled Tri-Cities Democrats (Michigan).
